Finding your company way

I have been thinking about why many lean and six sigma programmes struggle to gain traction. We all know the methods work, you only have to look at people like Toyota and GE to see that. What do they have that others are missing. I have an idea of what causes many of the problems, I would be interested in your views. Most businesses chase cash investment to grow, sometimes they need cash investment just to survive. At the same time, they deem change to reduce, time, resources and cash used by existing processes too expensive, too difficult or unsustainable! This seems counter productive. If we now look at how many improvement projects immediately look...

Being as how there is power in numbers and President Elect Trump is obviously a fan of social media, wouldn’t it be great if the transition team is barraged with messages to promote the Baldrige Award in his Inauguration speech? If they got a few thousand of the same message, it might garner some attention… It might also be worth showering the Dept of Commerce nominees with contacts to get them to add fuel to the fire, these are the nominees: Wilbur Ross as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce and Todd Ricketts as Deputy Secretary of Commerce. I've already done this. The sight I used to submit my suggestion was here: https://apply.ptt.gov/yourstory/...

So it has been a while since the last post but today starts a new day and a New direction. I will be working to setup the Workshops for developing and writing procedures based on Risk assessments. There is a major push to get your procedures written from a risk based thinking process, something I have been training personnel to do since 2009. 2017 will be a busy year for many companies. Many will be setting up shop again in the USA because the new President is pushing for lo wer corporate taxes and a small business friendly environment. There will be many small businesses looking to get Quality Management staff in place and ISO 9001:2015 certification...

Three Simple Questions...

Be the first person to recommend this.
A behaviour I suspect many lean six sigma mentors have seen with new belts is paralysis by analysis. Newly qualified, with access to powerful statistical analysis software and on their own for the first time, their first reaction is to conduct every statistical test they can think of, working on the principle that they are looking at the data from every perspective. What they are actually doing is in part showing off their new found skills and in part showing off their unconscious incompetence. That is not to say they are incapable, only that they lack experience. When mentoring new belts I always start them out with three simple questions. The reason for...

A model: Culture of Quality Factor (CQF) © This is a TQM Services © developed concept for determining what level a company has achieved as a Culture of Quality. It is arguably a controversial model many quality management people will debate the merits of developing a formula to rate an organization's culture of quality. But since it is a requirement in all Quality Manuals as an objective, i.e. to establish a Culture of Quality an organization must be able to clearly state with evidence their Culture of Quality. So what makes a Culture of Quality? Is a culture of quality a mind set? Is it a Motto “Do it right, the first time.”?...

Are there interests by Quality Professionals here in the Palmdale/Lancaster, CA area to form a committee and petition AVC to establish a Quality Assurance curriculum. There are emerging needs for new quality staffing to serve our national defense primes here in the Antelope Valley. However, quality related instructions are non-existent in this region. This could also be a pathway to forming the ASQ Antelope Valley Section.

21CFR 211.84

Dear All, During my Audits for 21 CFR 211 it found that most of the companies in India follow the Top,Middle and Bottom layers sampling and then they composite mixture which violets 21CFR 211.84 Point c (4) which states If it is necessary to sample a component from the top, middle, and bottom of its container, such sample subdivisions shall not be composited for testing. And this leads to Major Non Compliance while for EU standards the auditors accepts it. This leads to Argument during the closing meeting sometimes. I would like to know what exactly should be followed for this section of 21CFR. Thank you for your time. Best Regards, Nitin...

18 MAR 2016 I am working with a very interesting company (at QPC Services, we never release names of our clients) that wants and needs our services, but wants them “step by step”. You might be thinking – “oh, they’re not the brightest crayons in the box”, but this is not the case! I wish I was a bright and capable as they are. I am interested in what you think about this approach. This client’s culture is, in my opinion, is a high performance work environment culture. Individual productivity is extremely high, and in order to thrive in this environment, you have to be smart and capable. Most clients want to know the overview or the whole picture...

We have identified a contaminant in our laboratory refrigerator that is used for cooling our product before a critical step. I am looking for suggestions or advice for cleaning this piece of equipment properly. The fan mechanism located at the top will be a challenge for sure. I appreciate your time. Dawn

We had an external audit observation that stated we need to apply tamper evident seals to our Go/NoGo pin gages; that is a seal over the body of the pin gage holder and the collet that holds the pin in place. The seals we use now wear very quickly due to high use and break at the intersection of the gage holder body and the collet. Besides using a caulk-like substance, does anyone have any input on an alternate method? Thanks Loran Chapman

We all are consumers/end customers of the products/services that we use on a daily basis. You’ll be amazed if list the total products/services that you consume on a daily basis and how we contribute the economy at the large scale. As a customer, whenever we buy products/services, we don’t pay money only for the consumption but also the customer experience. For Example, when you buy flavored milk from a grocery store, you not only pay for the milk filled in a carton box along with the straw but also you pay for customer experience factors like the taste of milk, temperature it’s been maintained (Cold/Warm), Grocery store cleanliness, Service...
