According to the book, "ISO 9002:2015 Explained", by Charles Cianfrani and John West:

8.5.1 – Control of Production and Service Provision

There are three areas discussed in the book:

  • Services
  • Hardware and Processed Materials
  • Software (to include Configuration Management/Version Control)

To respond in as few words as possible, the authors say the each of the above should:

  1. Show a plan;
  2. Show the controlled process(es) to achieve the output(s); and,
  3. Show how the control(s) and process(es) are monitored (to include costs).

Each or the above are to show the personnel involved are competent (through experience, education, training...)

All activities (mentioned above) are to ensure conformity (of the Service, Product or Software) to prevent nonconformities.
