The
Advancing the STEM Agenda in Education, the Workplace and Society Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Stout will include a keynote panel discussion on partnerships between STEM education and industry. Dean Paul Plotkowksi , Grand Valley State University (GVSU) will lead this panel. From the speakers webpage:
"The GVSU Padnos College of Engineering & Computing engages a variety of university and community partners in providing a wide array of industry projects, work experiences for students, and STEM focused K–12 outreach programs. These programs build upon Paul’s involvement in community engagement activities for over 30 years"
We are finalizing the panelists and will be able to announce the panel soon. As we discuss in our Division-supported book,
Advancing the STEM Agenda, collaboration between K12, community colleges, universities and industry are important. We need industry support on the STEM initiatives for their ideas and for providing co-op experiences. In some studies, it has been reported that 20% of engineering graduates do not go into engineering careers; some of this is due to not having cooperative experiences.
In terms of workforce development, we know we will have a shortage of scientists, technicians and engineering; the more we collaborate, the more success we will have in developing future STEM workforce, including quality engineers and professionals. .
We hope you will join us in the conversation on partnerships between STEM education and industry at our conference at the University of Wisconsin-Stout on July 16-17.
